Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes is situated north-west of London. It is an administrative centre of Milton Keynes Borough. On 23 January 1967, it was termed as a new town. It has 89 square km area. It includes Wolverton, Bletchley and Stony Stratford. It also covers fifteen villages and farmlands. Its name is derived from the village of Milton Keynes. It is situated some kilometres east side of centre.

According to 2011 census, the population of this city was 229,941. The Milton Keynes Borough’s population was 248,800. The previous development of the city included work of many architects. These architects are Sir Richard MacCormac, Ralph Erskine and John Winter.

Grid Roads and Squares:

This city has development corporation designed the main roads architecture of street hierarchy. The main roads link communities. These are known as Grid roads and the space present between them known as grid squares. Every square is the partial community which forms 100 neighbourhoods within the urban environment.

The junctions which are round about were constructed at the intersections of the grid roads carry the large volume of traffic. The major roads are carriageway and single carriageway. Some of the grid squares have berms and some are landscaped. As there are so many of routes to various destinations, the traffic movements are really fast. The standard national limit is applied to grid roads.

Linear parks:

The Great Ouse’s plans and its branches are termed as linear parks. Another green route was Grand Union Route with single lock in just 10 miles. This park system was constructed by architect Peter. He also developed precepts of landscapes for the growth of areas. The grid squares are planted with trees selections and shrubs. The leadership and construction of parks have evolved under Neil Hingson.

City in the forest:

The corporation aimed to develop a forest city and planted millions of trees. In 2006, this area has 20 million trees. This city has a charity which is not dependent on municipal authority.
