Located on the River Medway, around 4 miles north of Royal Tunbridge Wells and 29 miles south east of London it is administrated by the borough of Tonbridge and Malling. The town may have got its name from the “town of bridges” due to the large number of streams that flow through it. To make and keep Tonbridge cleaner and safer, a Pedestrian Action group called PATHS was set up. The main aim of PATHS was to build a a pedestrianised street for the Tonbridge High Street. As of now, the High Street is a throughway for numerous Heavy Good Vehicles and commuter traffic.
In 2014 the Angel Community Garden was created to deal with the problem of ever decreasing number of bees and also of increasing eyessores. The garden stands along the edge of Sainsburys car park. The Tonbridge Friends of the Earth and Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council together came up with this initiative. The project also received some backing from some local shopkeepers and residents.
